Home Makeover 101
So now we begin the work of readying this house for sale in order to list it this month. Being one of the few 4 BR in this development is a plus. Also our rear view does not directly face any neighbours since we're located in the middle of a U. Still, we have spit & polish to do.
And so, I started with our master bedroom. Luckily, CDA did a pick-up in our area on Saturday, so we were able to donate some clothing after going through our drawers and closet. 2+ bags donated, one bag trashed. I can't believe I had (and was still wearing!) threadbare, holy clothing that was not fit enough to donate. I also found a box of clothes that basically never got unpacked from the move here and I'd long since outgrown after 3 pregnancies - will I ever have a waist again? And the purses ... what was I thinking when I bought *those* ugly things? I've put away the clutter including my bedside stack of magazines. I've moved my memory boxes into the closet. I moved the baby mattress and other items that don't belong in our room out. Now I only need DH to clear his night table clutter and move his books from the floor. I moved the broken TV out too, and the broken VCR DH was hiding under the bed as well as the broken lamp. DH grabbed one from his office, but I'll replace that with the one that matches mine instead (and it has a shade!) If the Computer Recyclers won't take the TV and VCR, they'll go out in the next trash. He'll never fix them, they're not worth fixing, and they're very cheap to replace these days with better quality & more features. I think I'll take the track light down and the small planter, then patch the holes and touch up the paint. The coat racks should go to storage, and the items on them, hung in the closet instead.
I've since also cleared the linen closet and expect to have more items to donate or trash as we move through the house. Almost every bath basket I've ever received includes among it a bottle of body lotion. I never got in the habit of using lotion, so those went. My MIL happened to be here, so she took a few to enjoy.
DH noticed a difference already - he says it'll look so nice we'll decide to stay just like on "those shows". I've been watching 'Clean Sweep' and 'Sell this House' to get all the tips and encouragement I can.
TIP: Rather than having toiletries spread out in view, place them in a cosmetic case sitting neatly on your dresser or vanity or on the back of the toilet. Or sweep them all into your sock drawer. It may be less convenient for you, but remember that you're only living like this temporarily.
Tomorrow I tackle the boys' room.
